DottedI love neon manicures. I however do not like a solid color manicure. I always want to add something to it to jazz it up. I started out with China Glaze's Purple Panic. On that note, why do they call it that? It looks pink to me. It has a purple/fuchsia flash that makes it lean toward purple. Nevertheless, it is an awesome color. I then took a dotting tool with black acrylic paint and did random dots. I then put white dots on top. They look like perfect bubbles to me. I had a few coworkers actually think I did stickers for these! The best part is that the right hand looks just as good.
There is a lot of trial and error with the polishes to get them to work properly. It is very frustrating, but can be oh so rewarding. I was trying to get some inspiration the other day, so I stood in front of my polish rack. A polished jumped out at me, and then it's 4 siblings came right along. I originally intended to do a dry marble. I did a test on paper that looked interesting. When I tried to do it on my bare nails to test it out however, the polish ran and pooled everywhere. Now I remember why I didn't care for the Sally Hansen HD High Definition line. Pretty colors, but so thin and runny.

These are the 5 colors I used, and in what order.

I used a white base to make the polishes look more like what they do in the bottle. In the future I might try it again with a silver foil base to bring more of a shimmering quality. I had a few problems with bubbles, but I haven't figured out what was the cause. Maybe different water. One thing I did learn though: Always keep the same exact amount of polish drops in your water! A few nails looked slightly more pastel than neon, and then I realized why. I wasn't cramming as much polish into the glass. I had to do some adjustment on the color to get it fairly close to what it really looks like. I am not that red, Haha.

Sorry, I didn't get a good photo of my right hand. This is almost a week later. I am pretty hard on my hands at work, so there is some tip wear. Also, cleaning up with the brush around the cuticles with my left hand is pretty hard. No one cares in person however. They all raved about these nails...

I find it awkward to paint nails that are attached to someone else's hands. I do however, enjoy giving someone a manicure that they truly enjoy. I was out shopping the other day with my brother's girlfriend, and we happened to see some of those glue on nails with designs. She saw a set that she liked, and I offered to paint them. I didn't follow them exactly... and I can't tell you what polishes I used. I frankened them from the few polishes she had, and I wouldn't recommend the recipe even if I had it. The greenish color took 4 coats before it was opaque enough. These were finished at midnight, so I had no light to take a photo. Hope you can still get an idea of what they look like.
Kellen is constantly expanding her product line to add in fun, new stuff. I have one of her glitter polish topcoats today for you.

Red, Blue, and You has quite a fun mix that is perfect for the 4th of July. It has: blue squares, red squares and bars, silver hex, shimmer, and shards. It was easy to work with. I didn't have to scoop around the bottle for glitter. I put it over black for a good contrast. The matte topcoated photo is one coat of RB&Y. The shiny photo is two coats.
I didn't take photos of it right away and I smudged it before I got a chance. It took forever to dry, even with a fast dry top coat. I thought it was a little too plain, so I stamped it with Zoya Trixie. Plus it hid the smudges! It was a little too sparkly for stamping. I wore it that way for a day and then decided to try double stamping with black. I offset the second stamps so you could see a little bit of the first. I was practicing so I was a little bit slow and it turned into a neat grunge effect. It reminds me of tshirts with big graphic prints. I have one photo with only one stamp and two with the two stamps. I do not know what order blogger will put them in. I do all my blogging from a mobile phone which is horrendous, just so you know. =]
It is gorgeous, sparkly, and orange. I was admiring the glass flecked finish and figured that it went well with some other CGs that I own. I grabbed 108 Degrees, Senorita Bonita, and Blue Iguana and painted them on top in a wavy, non perfect way. The colors make a perfect gradient, and then the blue makes a pop on the tips. They are flashy and I love them. I will definetly be using these colors together again.
I made my own wall rack, its 4 feet wide. I bought 1x2 furring strips and cut them in half. They cost $1 each at lowes and I used a total of 3.5 for mine. That made 5 shelves and the sides. It holds a little more than 200 polishes. It is also deep enough that I could add a thin strip of lumber across the front for earthquake prone places. Make sure you attach to studs in your wall. Originally I used drywall anchors rated way above the weight of my rack, but the drywall was too old and brittle and I dropped the whole thing. Luckily only 4 polishes broke. I need to add on to mine now. This is from when I first made it. The top is full and I have polish on my desk that doesn't fit. Luckily now I only buy super exciting polishes because I have the whole rainbow. It's rare for me to buy a polish now. Oh, speaking of rainbow, that's how I sorted the shelves now. Also each shelf goes cream, shimmer, glitter, flakie.

It is Essie Shine of the Times and I put it over Zoya Julieanne which is a dark shimmery purple base. It really brings out the different colors of Shine of the Times. I missed the boat on sally hansen's Hidden Treasure, so I was super excited when this new color came out. Flakie polishes are so fun and I hope they can develop different color shifts. On the close ups of the thumbnails you can see the purple shimmer coming through.
After a couple of days wearing my previous manure, I decided to do blue flakes on the tips. I used Motley from finger paints. It brings a nice blue and teal shimmer without hiding the base color. Then after a few more days I decided to try a stamp on top before taking the mani off. I have a total of around 12 coats of polish on my tips now because of all the clear I've used... My nails are grown out too much but I couldn't avoid wearing these for two days!
I started with a black cream, layered a coat of Wet and Wild Back Alley Deals from the Ice baby collection. Then I added one coat of Finger Paints Asylum. It's quick to do and you can't really mess it up. This is dry marbling, not water marbling, mind you! For these I painted a base of a pearly white by Sinful Colors called Tokyo Pearl. Then I put a blob of Zoya Ivanka near the cuticle, and then blobbed on Zoya Isla across the tips. Take a toothpick, needle, or marbling tool and make swirls through the polish.Clean any off that spills onto the sides. Wait a few minutes, put on a quick dry topcoat, and you are done!
I have a hard time with the full nail designs but most people don't notice my mistakes. I started with a white cream. Then I layered Essie Shine of the Times. It adds a subtle orange and green sparkle which is hard to see in photos. I used Kleancolor black for stamping and a Bundle Monster plate from their first set.
For these I used the China Glaze Tronica polishes. Start with a silver base and then just dab on the other colors. Then do a tiger stripe with a black striper or a small brush. The great thing about the Tronica polishes is that they dry pretty flat on top of each other. I didn't get a green or a yellow so I substituted something shimmery to fit in.
Start with a shimmering blue base and then paint some flags on your nails. Oh and don't worry about being perfect. No one noticed that they were not. I got a lot of compliments on this. A little advice, if you are using white acrylic paint and not polish, put a layer of clear before doing the dots and stripes. It bled a little because of the polish.

The ring finger is an accent of fireworks. Just draw some lines arcing out of the center to simulate the sparks falling to the ground.
The gold is a franken. I started with a gold from Sinful Colors that was too sheer. I just kept adding gold glitter to it until it was pretty opaque. If you are not satisfied with your polish, don't be afraid to play around it to make it useable!
You should try one sometime! Paint your base and then pick a coordinating color or two. Drop some of the polish on a sheet of plastic or paint pallette and dip a straw in it. Then blow the polish onto your nail.

I started with a base of China Glaze Cha Cha Cha, then splattered on a black cream and China Glaze Frostbite for the blue.
Here is some simple nail art. All you need is a nail dotter! I love easy designs like this because anyone can do them with a little patience. I used a random orange cream and then acrylic paint for the dots. Some of the bigger dots also have orange acrylic paint in the center of them to mix things up.
